About this tour

Discover the King Penguin Colony in Tierra del Fuego

Why Visit Tierra del Fuego?

Tierra del Fuego is home to the only King Penguin colony in South America, making it one of the most fascinating destinations in the region.

Geography and Landscape

With an area of 22,593 km², Tierra del Fuego is the largest island in both Chile and South America. Its diverse climate, geology, and history make it a unique place to explore. The island is divided into two main areas: the north, dominated by open steppe and sheep farming estancias, and the south, where travelers find lush forests, lakes, mountains, and glaciers.

How to Get There

By Ferry

You can take a two-hour ferry across the Strait of Magellan to Bahía Chilota. Just 5 km away lies the city of Porvenir, founded in 1894 to serve the sheep ranches of the region.

By Land

Alternatively, you can travel by land to Primera Angostura, where the strait narrows. From there, a short 40-minute ferry ride will take you to the island.

Unforgettable Patagonian Experience

Because of its unique geography and the presence of the King Penguin colony, Tierra del Fuego offers visitors a truly unforgettable Patagonian experience.

Another option to see penguins is:
Magdalena Island Navigation
