About this tour

Trekking to Base Torres from Punta Arenas

The trekking to Base Torres from Punta Arenas is one of the most iconic hikes in Torres del Paine National Park. This full-day adventure is ideal for nature lovers who want to experience the heart of Patagonia. It includes a 4-hour hike to the viewpoint and another 4 hours to return. Therefore, this tour is recommended for people in good physical condition.

What to expect on the Base Torres hike

The trail starts at the Welcome Center of Estancia Cerro Paine. From there, the route follows the Ascencio River and skirts Mount Almirante Nieto. As you walk, the landscape changes between Patagonian steppe and native forest. For example, you will pass through lenga trees and across suspension bridges.

The final section is a one-kilometer climb through a rocky moraine. However, the effort is worth it. From the top, you will reach the famous Base Torres viewpoint. The view includes the three granite towers, a turquoise lagoon, and an amphitheater-shaped valley.
